Ethiopian Airlines signed an MoU with Boeing to acquire upto twenty B777-9 aircraft at estimated value of USD11 billion.
The new aircraft is the first to be ordered from Africa and is the widest “in the history of Ethiopian Airlines.” Total number of seats will be over 400 per each aircraft, with business seat accounting for 50 of the seats and the rest economic class seats.
Equipped with the “state of the art technology,” it’s the latest widebody aircraft Boeing manufactured. It is said to achieve 10 percent fuel efficiency.

Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, and Brad McMuller, VP of Boeing signed the MoU, which will enable Ethiopia’s flag carrier to receive three aircrafts in 2027 and another three in 2029. The remaining is planned to be received after 2030.
