The central aim of the book titled “Welkait Tegede – Generations’ Quest for Truth and Justice” is to reveal the atrocities committed by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States, against the Amhara community in Welkait Tegede, Ethiopia. Following the collapse of Mengistu’s regime, the TPLF, bolstered by diplomatic, financial, and logistical backing from Western nations, rose to power in Ethiopia. Upon seizing control, the TPLF evolved into a colonial entity and launched a campaign characterized by divisive ethnic politics, primarily orchestrated and financed by the United States and the United Kingdom. A significant objective of the TPLF was to annex the territories of Welkait Tegede, Raya, and Telemt, resulting in the displacement of the Amhara population and their replacement with Tigreans from areas across the Tekeze River, which historically demarcates the boundary between the Amhara and Tigray regions.
The TPLF, wielding unchecked authority, implemented a range of genocidal and ethnic cleansing strategies, alongside deceptive tactics, to inflict harm upon the regions of Welkait Tegede and Telemt, with the intent of transforming their demographic, linguistic, and social frameworks. This book aims to champion the restoration of the rightful and legitimate entitlements of the Amhara people residing in Welkait Tegede. It aspires to galvanize the local populace to resist any further atrocities perpetrated by the TPLF and to compel its retreat beyond the Tekeze River, where it is deemed to belong. Furthermore, the book delineates methods for orchestrating campaigns that seek to revive the region’s original identity, encompassing its Amharic language and social organization.
Detailed Objectives
- To demonstrate that the TPLF is a designated terrorist and ethnocentric organization, not a democratic one.
- To pass down to future generations the knowledge of the atrocities committed by the TPLF in Welkait Tegede.
- This ensures that the next generation knows that the TPLF, considered an enemy, is just across the Tekeze River. They must remain vigilant to prevent further atrocities and oppression of the Amhara people of Welkait Tegede.
- To support the revitalization of the Welkait Tegede community, which was once prohibited from speaking Amharic under TPLF’s rule, by encouraging the community to read Amharic books and revive the language in this era of freedom.
